Kastella Design Studio was founded out of a desire to offer a more dedicated and design-focused partnership to clients seeking thoughtful, high-impact environments. After nearly two decades leading projects with top-tier design firms, including a formative tenure at Gensler Los Angeles, Dimitra Dorbacopoulos was inspired by the support of close industry relationships to establish her own studio in 2023.

Rooted in her dual Greek and Angeleno heritage, Dimitra built Kastella to reflect a philosophy of human-centered design, where precision meets passion and every detail tells a story. Today, Kastella continues to collaborate with forward-thinking partners to create transformative spaces that elevate experience, celebrate culture, and endure over time.

Kastella (Καστέλλα) is named after the hilltop neighborhood in Piraeus, Greece, where Dimitra’s father grew up. Once known as Munychia in antiquity, it was a stronghold of Athenian democracy and later a haven for artists and dreamers.

For Dimitra, it’s a place of memory and meaning—a symbol of resilience, elegance, and soulful connection. The name honors her family’s roots and the values that guide her work: meraki (doing something with soul), philoxenia (generous hospitality), and kefi (spirited joy). Kastella Design is built on these principles, weaving heritage into every space.
